> THE MONOCHROMATIC FALL <

Nankin Sky

Melancholy, Decadence, and the Death of Art

T he dark journey of an amateur artist who traded his sanity for the sublime. Under the tutelage of the enigmatic Maecenas, the Protagonist reached the pinnacle of recognition, only to watch his relationships slip through his fingers like watered-down ink. Now, trapped in a state of death and depression, he wanders a nearly entirely monochromatic world. Color, once his life, appears only as rare flashes of lost emotions and memories. A posthumous quest to understand how his greatest passion became his own ruin.

The Artist's Diary

I. The Promise of the Sublime

He was just another amateur with graphite-stained hands and a heart full of unrequited passion for galleries. When Maecenas appeared, he didn't seem like a manipulator, but a prophet. His words didn't just praise the technique, but opened doors in the protagonist's mind he didn't even know were locked.

The transition was subtle. The first works under Maecenas's tutelage overflowed with a transcendental beauty, a depth that frightened even the creator himself. Notoriety came soon, and with it, the poison of applause. But Maecenas demanded focus. "True art," he would say, "does not share space with the mediocrity of human affection".

II. The Cost of Genius

The climb to the top was a walk over the corpses of his personal relationships. The protagonist stopped answering calls. His girlfriend left, taking the last anchor tying him to reality. Family became an unwanted background noise. He isolated himself in a studio smelling of turpentine and despair, believing loneliness was the martyrdom necessary for greatness.

"I didn't paint a masterpiece. I diluted my own soul in solvent and spread it on the canvas. And when the world applauded, I smiled, without realizing there was no one inside anymore." - Notes on the Back of the Torn Canvas

And then, after the peak, the fall. The art world, so quick to raise gods, is even quicker to devour them. Disqualifications, empty criticism, and Maecenas's perpetual dissatisfaction broke the artist. Success gave way to deep clinical depression. Color literally began to disappear from his vision.

III. The Monochromatic Sea

The biological end was not the end of the pain. After death, the protagonist wakes up in a purgatory of purely Nankin aesthetics. There are no textures, only brutal contrasts of white, black, and gray. He walks like a ghost in his own posthumous exhibition, trying to understand the anatomy of his fall.

In this world, the only traces of color are the 'Pure Flashes'. When he finds a drop of blue, he remembers the sea where he was happy; a dash of yellow recalls the smile he abandoned. Now, his mission is not to create the perfect canvas, but to navigate Maecenas's dark ink ocean to discover the truth: Was he a misunderstood genius, or just another puppet whose strings were cut when he ceased to be useful?
